new fav photography subject

when aarik gave me this ring i wear, i said i have a new favorite subject to photograph. and for a while, it was my favorite photography subject. the way it looks in the light, the color against different textures, all of it delighted me. and it does, still, but aarik outdid himself and got us another thing i love to take pictures of.

i mean just look at the way the rain beads up on this beast. look at the door handle, the keyhole. the slick paintjob.

we are the proud owners of a 1990 ford bronco xl. you gotta hoist to get into this thing, it’s got those big tires. it has automatic windows, such a luxury on this model. the cd player blasts miley cyrus real loud while i pull up to our local hyvee.

i’ve always loved old cars. i almost bought an ’83 el camino in 2024 but it’s for the best that i held out for this (and i didn’t even have to pay for it).

it needs a new battery and the spare tire is only secured with frayed bungee cords, but man i love to drive this car.

i’m teaching my kids about what cars were like back in my day and they don’t know how cool it is but i fucking do.

“ashtrays, kids.” i said. “those are ashtrays.”
