if we may (2026)

We took Holden and his friend to see “Oliver and Company” at Film Streams. Holden told us it’s good luck to swirl your latte art.

Brandon got his long-awaited eBike. He has decorated it with Posca markers.

Same lake at sunset. We like to walk here and watch the sky change colors.

I had a reading on Wednesday and there was an outside piano, so Aarik played some hits and we sang into the nearly-summer air.

We’ve been reading a lot of books. He’s at 89, I’m at 76 for the year so far. I don’t think I’ll catch up.

Even so, I try to catch up by reading when he’s not.

Snapped a picture of all the potential wishes right outside my library.

Saw this sweet sign while on a day trip to meet a friend in the middle of two midwestern cities. I picked up a hurricane lamp on the way there from an estate sale. Apparently they’re supposed to withstand a hurricane, but I can report that the glass chimney didn’t withstand a sharp right turn.

Took another day trip the opposite direction on I-29. St. Joseph is one of mine and Aarik’s favorite places to stop.

We try to walk each day. Sometimes we can’t do that until 8:30 or 9, when we work nights and get home with just enough time to eat dinner and catch the last color of the sky. But also, it’s kind of our favorite time. When the sounds of people are turned down and the sounds of animals are turned up. We tell each other stories and play out scenes as if we’re different people. For what it’s worth, we kill as a detective duo.
